Does anyone know...

... if there's a photography ban in the Makati CBD?

I was in the act of taking pictures of RCBC plaza when I was prohibited from doing so by a security guard. According to him, "Ser, bawal iyan dito.  Kahit saang building dito sa Makati, bawal iyan.".  Since I didn't want to debate with someone who is trained to not be reasonable, I simply acceded.

So here's what i want to know: Could it be merely a building-specific rule?  Or is it an actual City Ordinance?

  1. I think OA lang yung guard - dito sa California Garden Square, ganyan din ang mga guards, bawal kumuha ng pictures and mga residents - take note ha residents.

  4. I don't think there's any ordinance that will prohibit people from taking photos of buildings. I also noticed that even inside the malls ur not allowed to take photos. I was thinking that if this is indeed not allowed, why did they not post it in front of the mall entrances na it's not allowed? Afterall, the digital camera age is rising! Hay naku! If I was told na bawal, I would have asked them why...or at least ask them to show me something that will prove that it's bawal talaga. Hahaha!

  6. ang alam ko lang na yung bawal talaga is sa banks, siempre naman for security nila yun. baka isipin pa nila na may balak kang mang-hold-up hehe otherwise, am not aware of any law or something that bans people from taking photos.

  7. partly it's about money and perception. If you look like a foreign tourist, and a rich one at that, most likely you will be left alone. for us natives, we need to get the permission, i.e. "pay" both MAPSA (google it, dunno the meaning), and sometimes even the baranggay, if you want to take pictures on the streets of Makati. Shooting from within the building however (from rooftops or windows), is "allowed." Simply because they cannot catch you.

  8. Thanks for the info Joe, I think it's the same principle that governs the non-frisking and non-inspection of bags of foreigners in building entrances. Grrr.... Nakakainis talaga.

  11. Chito, tanong natin next time kung anong city ordinance number yun. Because I looked through the list of Makati city ordinances and there's no such rule prohibiting the taking of photos of building facades. I took a photo of the PBCom Tower facade. Merong guard na nakatayo near where I was sitting. He didn't care. Maarte lang siguro ang RCBC Plaza. Kita mo naman ang security officers nila dun di ba... with matching fatigues.

  12. technically the makati cbd is a privately owned area so we are obligated to abide by their "rules". makati/ayala, just like malls, are private establishments/areas with public access so medyo debatable yung concept ng whats private and whats public. isa pa, its illogical to debate with a sekyu as they are just following orders from the higher ups.

Potek, yung ganyang topic ang isa sa pinaka-ayaw kong pag-aralan nung lawschool days ko, hahaha. Pero tama ka Windsor, lagi kang talo kung makipag-debate ka sa sikyu.
